Breaking the Law

You only get to be young once. You can’t repeat those same experiences, once they happen they’re history.

My mum always told me to just enjoy being a kid.

When you’re young you can’t wait to grow up. You dream about the day you can be independent, and become your own person.

As you get older you start looking back. You start to reminisce.

Before you know it, you have kids of your own, and then they can’t wait to grow up and get older. So you tell them the same thing your mum told you. Only now you know because you’ve lived it. So you know they won’t listen either.

Whether you’re a kid, a teen, or an adult. Enjoy it now. Remember, yesterday doesn’t exist anymore and tomorrow hasn’t happened yet.

So don’t waste today.

I took this photo of my friend John Peach on New Years in Whangamata, around 2002, just before we both got thrown into a paddy wagon. The copper on the left saw my flash go off and told me he would “Shove that camera up my arse” if I didn’t put it away. Unfortunately it wasn’t a digital otherwise I would have shown him a preview. Those were the days !
