Rise Above

I could attribute the title to this piece from Black Flag’s “Rise Above” single from their 1981 debut album, Damaged.

But the message is universal, and has been said in every generation.

Funkadelic said “Free your Mind, and your Ass will follow (the kingdom of heaven is within)”. So get hip to it! Change your mental state, or become a prisoner of your own thoughts.

Jimi said “If the mountains fell in the sea, let it be, it ain’t me. Alright, ‘cos I got my own world to look through, and I ain’t gonna copy you.”

Johnny Cash said “I’d love to wear a rainbow every day, and tell the world that everything’s OK. But I’ll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, ’till things are brighter, I’m the Man In Black”.

Or the words of Public Enemy “Our freedom of speech is freedom or death, we got to fight the powers that be – Fight the Power!”

Lastly, Wilson Phillips tells it like it is: “I know that there is pain but, you hold on for one more day and you break free from the chains”. Word!

Tune in to the message.

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised, WILL NOT BE TELEVISED.
